LIV Golf...love it or hate it

I’ve bided my time in writing something here about LIV golf. I think it is working. Many predicted it wouldn’t even get off the ground.

What do I like

  • It is free to watch on You Tube or on the LIV website.

  • It is all over in 5 hours

  • The shotgun format means all the players are on the course at one time

  • The coverage can feature 20 or more players during the broadcast (not just the leading few, or maybe worse still, the select few!)

  • The Don’t Blink replays bring you up to date with birdies etc by any player who has played a notable shot or sunk a great putt.

  • The selected courses so far have been very high quality and challenging

  • The standard of play is first rate

  • The teams event creates interest right down to the wire, even though the individual event may be sewn up with several holes to play

  • The players seem to be having fun

  • Shorts are good

  • I love the players chatting with Troy and Bubba (for now) and giving tips on the range or putting green

  • I used to live in Bangor, Northern Ireland, where David Feherty hails from. I enjoyed watching David as a player but he’s great as a commentator and analyst of the game. He adds to the fun of LIV. I think he would have excelled in LIV as a player had it been around in his day. David used too sing as he walked down the fairway (Opera amongst other things).

What I’d like to see

  • Pull carts for the caddies. In this day and age of Health and Safety at Work regulations, why is a caddie allowed to lumber a huge pro bag full of gear, food, towels if it wet and dear knows what else up and down hills?

  • LIV players get re-instated to the OWR points scheme. Even some amateur events carry world ranking points so why not the LIV Tour. I think 13 tours are already included, many with no where near the status of players competing as we see in LIV. The ranking points are meaningless without Cam Smith and Dustin Johnson, Niemann, Ortiz and Ancer, DeChambeau and others.
